Sailing Results 2008 This year’s sailing race took place on the Sunday of the August long weekend and had 5 vessels vying for the trophy. It was a close race with Klaus Faisst’s windsurfer beating out the Kunc Laser with a time of 1: 15. John and Jarret Kunc crossed the finish line a minute behind at 1:16 and third place went to Chuck Erion in his Tanzer with a time of 1:18. This was an exciting race with 4th place going to Gary Mueller with a time of 1:23. After the race the sailors met at Rob and Peg Rook’s cottage for the awards presentation. Many thanks to our commodore Steven Neugebauer and Rob Rooks for organizing this event. As you may be aware this was the first year that we invited Blackstone Lake sailors to join our annual sailing race. Unfortunately the date of the race conflicted with the Blackstone Annual General Meeting so Blackstone sailors couldn’t make it through the river for the 2:30 p.m. start time - too bad as Gary Mueller had created a beautiful new trophy to commemorate the event. The president of the Blackstone Lake Association, Colin McFadyen, did stop in as the race was finishing apologizing for their meeting running late and even offered to change the date of their next AGM so that they can join in on the fun next year. We look forward to it! See you there!

The day started off with a strong S to SE wind though by race time at 2 p.m. it had died down somewhat. We fielded the strongest showing in some years – 7 boats including 3 CL-16’s (the Lake’s, Fenwick’s and Rooks’), 1 Albacore (the Robertson’s), 2 Lasers (the Muellers’ & Kunc’s) and 1 Windsurfer (the Faisst’s). We were especially pleased to welcome the Robertson’s in their Albacore – they just moved onto Crane Lake this summer and are obviously enthusiastic about taking part in our various events. Many thanks to the officials for the race - Chuck Kunc, our Commodore for the event, and Steve Neugebauer. Due to the drop in wind the Commodore decided to shorten the course from 7 legs to 4. The winning boat, a CL 16 crewed by Rob Rooks and Sheila Grange, came in with a time of 41:44 with Klaus Faisst on his Windsurfer just over a minute behind at 42:53. Third place went to Walter Mueller in his Laser with a time of 44:03. Awards were presented after the race at Piirto’s cottage. Next year the race will be held in the South end and we will be inviting Blackstone sailors to join us. We look forward to seeing you there! |
