All cottages on Crane Lake have been given a yellow sheet indicating who should be called in case of an emergency. This should be posted by your telephone. Be sure you know your civic number as shown on the green sign. Members who want an extra copy of the yellow emergency number sheet should take one from the clear plastic box which is mounted at the front of the fireboat.

Cottage fire

Do not call 9-1-1. Our township does not have a fire department, so we must depend on our cottage association's fireboat and portable fire pumps.

In case of fire, call the following numbers until you reach a fire committee member. They will bring the lake's fireboat and get other help. Be sure that you stay out of any burning building.

In the rare event that you cannot reach a member of the fire committee, you can get the fireboat yourself or simply sound the siren on the boat to get help. The fireboat is parked at the Crane Lake Resort. To learn how to operate the fireboat, go to FIRE VIDEO, BOAT SEGMENT

The lake has five portable pumps located in boxes around the lake. You should get one of these pumps if you have a neighbor who has a fire, or if you hear the siren on the fireboat. To learn the location of these pumps, refer to the map with the cottage numbers. To learn how to operate one of these portable pumps, go to FIRE VIDEO, PUMP SEGMENT.

Everyone on the lake is strongly encouraged to review the entire fire video. Go to FIRE VIDEO.

You hear the fireboat's siren

Put on long sleeves, long pants, and solid shoes. Then follow the boat to see if you can help. If possible, have someone drop you off at the fire because there probably will be no dock available.
If you cannot determine where the fireboat has gone, you can call the numbers of the fire committee members listed under COTTAGE FIRE. Their family members may know the location of the fire.

Go to FIRE VIDEO, IF YOU HEAR THE BOAT'S SIREN to learn more about how you can help.

Forest fire

Call the MNR at 888 863 3473
Also call the fire committee at one of the numbers listed under COTTAGE FIRE.

Police emergency

Police protection is provided by the OPP (Ontario Provincial Police). For emergencies, call 9-1-1. If necessary the OPP will bring their own boat.

Police non-emergency  1-705-746-4226

Poison Control Centre    1-800-268-9017

TeleHealth Ontario          1-866-797-0000

Hydro emergency Call Ontario Hydro at 1-800-434-1235

If there is a fire, or threat of a fire, also call the fire committee at one of the numbers listed under COTTAGE FIRE.

Medical emergency

If you have north side road access

Call 9-1-1. There is an ambulance located near the intersection of the Blackstone/Crane Lake Road and Highway 69. They will respond. Our lake has a fireboat which has a first aid kit, backboard, braces, and oxygen for use by those who are medically trained. If you need help retrieving this equipment, call a member of the fire committee listed under COTTAGE FIRE.

South side road access

If you have road access on the south side of the lake via the South Crane Lake Road, an ambulance, probably from MacTier, will respond to your cottage. Call 9-1-1. However you may wish to request that the ambulance respond to the Crane Lake Resort. You would have to transport your patient to the Crane Lake Resort, but the patient would reach Parry Sound Hospital much faster than by using the South Crane Lake Road. Our lake has a fireboat which has a first aid kit, backboard, braces, and oxygen for use by those who are medically trained. If you need help, call a member of the fire committee listed under COTTAGE FIRE. They would be happy to bring the medical equipment and assist with the transportation of the patient to the Crane Lake Resort.

Water access

If you have water access, call 9-1-1 and instruct the ambulance to respond to the Crane Lake Resort or the Aga Ming dock, whichever is closer for you. If you need assistance getting your patient to this location, you may call anyone on the fire committee for help. Refer to the list of their phone numbers under COTTAGE FIRE. If you feel that the patient should not be moved, such as with a possible back or neck injury, you may ask the lake's fireboat to meet the ambulance and bring the ambulance crew to your location. The fireboat has a first aid kit, backboard, braces, and oxygen for use by those who are medically trained. You also may call the fire committee to have this equipment brought to your location.
