Lake Map & Legend Update - Your Action Required

AN IMPORTANT REQUEST FROM THE BOARD OF CRANE LAKE ASSOCIATION
MAP & LEGEND UPDATE

Fellow property owners,

The Crane Lake Association is proud to be updating the Crane Lake Map and Legend. The Map is a valuable piece of art that many of us have posted on a prominent cottage wall. We know the Crane Lake Map is helpful in resolving debates on which bay is which or who is living just around the corner. It also helps guests know where they are in reference to the rest of the lake, or how to find the best place to fish or to stargaze. The Map and accompanying Legend are also valuable parts of keeping our community safe by helping volunteers and fellow cottagers locate your property if you place a call to 911 for fire support.

The Crane Lake Association is reaching out today as we are in the process of updating both the Map and the accompanying Legend. Since the last revamp of the Map in 2006 there is a new road, some new cottages, and some address changes. The Legend was last updated in 2017 but many properties have changed owners since then. We are excited to be taking on this renewal project as a chance to keep our Map accurate, and the Legend up to date.

In performing this update, we recognize the importance of your privacy. Therefore, we are seeking your permission to have your name(s) included on the updated Legend. We need each and every registered owner of your property to click on the link below to record their names and confirm or opt out of having their preferred names appear on the Legend.

Note that there are only 32 characters of space available for the name shown so please consider, in consultation with all owners, how your cottage designation will appear on the Legend. Here are some examples:

  • “Raymond and Nancy Johnston” (26 characters). You could also shorten this to “Raymond & Nancy Johnston” (24 characters).

  • Owners with different last names may have to decide on a shorter version. “Raymond Saunders & Nancy Johnston” takes 33 characters. “R. Saunders & N. Johnston” is only 25 characters.

  • If multiple owners’ names don’t fit, you may choose to only use the first names of all the registered owners. “Raymond, Nancy & George” (23 characters). You might also decide to just use the family surname(s). “The Saunders & Johnstons” (24 characters).

Please be aware, if we do not have permission from all owners of your property in writing by September 30, 2021, we cannot include your name on the Legend and any names from the previous version of the Legend will be removed. Please forward this message and link to any additional owners of the property to ensure they are aware that they need to complete the form providing consent. If any property owners opt out of having their names on the Legend, no names for that property will be provided on the Legend. As mentioned, your privacy is of utmost importance, and we want to ensure all parties are respected in this update of the Map and Legend.

When this survey process is completed, the Map along with the Legend will be provided free to members of the Crane Lake Association. Non-members will be able to request a copy for a fee to cover the cost of production.

We look forward to your response by September 30th, so we can move forward with this project.

 Thanks very much,

 Crane Lake Association
