Fire Safety - AEDs on Crane Lake

Automated External Defibrillators

During the summer ahead one of the themes the CLA will be communicating on is Fire Safety.  Over the coming weeks we’ll be providing multiple quick tips and information that you can use and share with everyone at your cottage to help keep you safe and know what to do should a fire or other emergency occur.

As a member of the Crane Lake Association, you are likely aware of the 5 Fire pumps spread around the lake (6 including the one on the Fire Boat) which are available for cottagers to use in an emergency.

Did you also know that along with each fire pump there is a portable AED? What’s an AED you may ask?

Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) are portable, life-saving devices designed to treat people experiencing sudden cardiac arrest, a medical condition in which the heart stops beating suddenly and unexpectedly.  The AED’s are located in the Fire Pump boxes and are in bright orange waterproof carry cases, while the AED on the Fire Boat is in the bin with the First Aid supplies in a red case.

Anyone on the lake can retrieve one of the AED’s in the event of a heart emergency and use it to potentially save a life.

Our Philips Heartstart OnSite model AED’s are one of the best designed and easiest to use with simple and easy to follow instructions.  However, we strongly encourage you and your fellow cottagers to review a short video on how to use the AED by clicking the link below.

Even though these devices are designed to be used by anyone and provide clear instructions, viewing the video may provide some additional familiarization and comfort in the event you find yourself in an emergency situation.

Stay safe on Crane!
