Biosphere Surveys on Blackstone Crane Lake Road - Watch for Cyclists

From the Georgian Bay Biosphere

We have a team of summer staff biking roads throughout the Biosphere weekly this summer, including Blackstone Crane Lake Road. The two-person team is biking the length of the road looking for reptiles alive or dead on the road, including nesting turtles! We will be using the information that we collect to see if there are any "hotspots" along the road where reptiles seem to be crossing the most. This will help to inform the township of any locations that could use mitigation such as fencing, lower speed limits, more signage, etc, into the future.

We just wanted to let you know so that you could share the word with the Association to keep an eye out for our bikers on Mondays and Thursdays throughout the summer/fall.  We will have high-visibility vests on and stopping on the road side whenever we come across observations.

If any members are interested in citizen science we would LOVE to get their observations along the road, at their home or cottage, or anywhere else they might be in the Biosphere through our iNaturalist project.  More information can be found here: https://www.gbbr.ca/news/love-nature-join-the-inaturalist-project-for-the-georgian-bay-biosphere/
