Fire Rating High

Heading into the Victoria Day long weekend, please note the Fire Rating in the Township of the Archipelago (Crane Lake) has been elevated to “High” because of the dry conditions. Fireworks are prohibited during this Rating, as is outdoor burning except for contained campfires for cooking and warmth.

As per the Township:
”Fires for cooking and personal warmth are considerations provided for under the By-law for campers. This provision is not intended for use by residents or cottagers that have access to contained fuel burning appliances or means to escape the cold.”

Although permitted within the Township on the Victoria Day holiday if the Fire Rating is Low or Moderate, setting off Fireworks is prohibited during a “High” or “Extreme” Fire Rating. So please watch the Fire Rating as you make your plans for the long weekend. Conviction under this offence carries a fine of $425. Click here to link to the Fireworks By-law.

The link to the Township of the Archipelago website is thearchipelago.on.ca. The current Fire Rating is always displayed on the website and clicking on it will take you to the Fire Rating Legend showing what is permitted and restricted under each Fire Rating.

Looking forward to a safe and fun long weekend on the lake!
